For a lack of creativity, this headline at least gets straight to the point…
How was my first NO BUY month in 2022? Well… it went GREAT! At the end of the month, I still had a decent amount of money left! Alas, this will not go into my savings account (for now) but pay my Credit card bill and my tuition fee (which surprises me time and time again even though I should be used to it by now after 375656385 years of working on my dissertation…). BUT I feel great getting off to a good start and I’m optimistic I will be able to save some money come February. I’m excited about my NO BUY and how much fun it can be — at least for now.
Goodbye after 14 years
Let’s be clear: Like in 2020, also in this No Buy adventure, I’m allowed to replace things I need. As if it had known about my plans, last week my epilator decided to give up the good work — after 14 years! Guess I can’t (and won’t) complain about that. I tried to get it going again several times, but to no avail. Therefore, I had to get a new one, and after some fuzzing about — I never knew you could spend up to €180 for an epilator that comes with tons of fancy equipment no one needs (and most won’t ever use, I guess) — I got the fifth (?) generation of my old epilator. For sure, 14 years is a long time and my old one served me well. However, thanks to my new epilator I now have such smooth legs I could probably even wear a satin gown — yes, the ones from lady shaver commercials — and it wouldn’t stick to my legs like being draped on a cactus.
The comeback of the wishlist
I’ve used a wishlist since my Low Buy in 2020 and I really love the concept, especially for my needs: Whenever I feel the urge to splurge, I put the item I want to purchase on my wishlist. If I still want it after 30 days, I can get it. Chances are, I don’t even remember I wanted it in the first place after a few days, or at least I don’t feel the need to get it immediately. More often than not, I get it when I find a special edition or offer (or both) several weeks or even months later. Sometimes I never get it because I got caught up on the spur of a moment, only to realize that I don’t really want it at all.
Anyway, right now the wishlist has a huge moment again, especially since I don’t even buy books in the coming weeks. At least for my No Buy January, it worked like a charm 🙂
Fancy a cuppa?
According to my Low Buy rules from 2020 — which I use for this No Buy as well —, I can spend money having lunch/dinner/coffee with friends and family as much as I want because, let’s be honest, I don’t do that often anyway since I don’t enjoy being out and about and around people. As we are still in the middle of a global pandemic, I got even more reasons not to meet people in cafés and sit around exchanging mutations and such. So while I did actually grab a cuppa with an old friend, I otherwise abstained from gastronomic frivolities and only had takeout two times, which is fine. Saved me a decent amount of money and worries about possible infections 🙂
So much for my No Buy January 2022. Being several days (weeks!) into February, I’ve already put some money into my savings account, hoping I can add some more at the end of the month.
How are you? Are you doing a Low Buy or No Buy? How’s it working for you?
Thanks for stopping by. Take care and have a good time! 🙂
